My 450BM Galil build

Postby Dee2012 » Sun Dec 23, 2012 2:43 pm

Hi guys
This is my 1st post on the forum. I spent some time researching 450BM specs using posts from here and it gave me some great information on barrels! I ended up using a McGowen chrome moly 1 in 24 twist. Anyways here are some pics. (Hopefully I posted in the correct area)

Am I seeing an "Izzy" handguard?

Thanks for the welcomes!
Yep it's an Izzy FAL handguard -the fit was natural. The original galil HG's were too small for the heavy barrel.

That is hott! 1:24 twist, im curious any signs of rounds coming apart at range? I thought slower twists were the common theme for this caliber.

The 1 in 24" is pretty slow (same as the Bushmaster AR platform). Accuracy seems decent, here is 100yd range results

I'm still tuning the performance. I made a couple more tweaks and need to go back to the range. (My Bushmaster 450BM AR shoots 1moa or less)

Great Build and Way-To-Go, Dee2012, and welcome-welcome!!

Question, what is the size of the barrel under the gas block and did you have to make a larger diameter gas block??

The gas block journal is 0.850". I cutoff an original galil gas block and tig'd it to a 4130 tube bored to 0.850 ID.
The barrel dimensions start at 1.2" at the receiver, going to 1" under the handguard and finish up at 0.825" at the muzzle. It's a threaded connection to the receiver using standard galil thread specs.
