The barrel dimensions start at 1.2" at the receiver, going to 1" under the handguard and finish up at 0.825" at the muzzle. It's a threaded connection to the receiver using standard galil thread specs.

Good job Duncan, I like your work!

If you want to cut off some weight, I'm sure you already know where to start whittling. I bet you could get 1-2lbs off that, but hey, you prolly like it for your reasons. Either way, this is great and is prolly the first Galil, done in 450b. I knew Uzi and he'd have been shocked, but then so what!

You did Good Boss, what is your plan for the 308 hole in the receiver for the larger mags??

Yep, it's pretty heavy but that's good for recoil, plus I like the heavy barrel for playing with the accuracy potential.
It's built on a 223 platform, so the magwell is setup for the correct mags. The mags I use are the standard galil mag bodies with a mix of AR follower parts -feeds reliably...

So, the trunnion is threaded to receive the barrel? That's sure a nice way to go as opposed to press fit and pinning. I have a half restored M92 underfolder that has sat for five years waiting for me to finish disassembling it to refit it. The fellow who made it spot welded through the holes instead of using the normally peened rivets and it broke free at the trunnion and several other places. Grinding out the welds so that I can drive out the rivet remains and replace them was a daunting task which I got discouraged doing and eventually it got put in a project box and shelved. I do hope to get back to it one day. Just a matter of ordering a NoDakSpud receiver given how jizzed the one I was grinding out got? Perhaps once I get the shop cleaned, which is why I took the entire Christmas week off to do.

Now, you have me thinking of rebarreling it in 450b. Can I even go that route with a standard AK platform? Is the Galil more beefy, to that end? I have rudimentary machining equipment and plenty of patience and metal working know-how, though no tig welder access. The thought of that metal butt foot on the underfolder is a little intimidating though. It was tough on the shoulder and cheek even in 7.62x39. Still it intrigues me...

What did that barrel set you back? Is the gas block adjustable?

The M92 should be fine -the trunnion is a 23mm ID. You should set up the pressfit for a 0.001" interference.
I believe the barrel was $165 from McGowen plus many weeks of leadtime (12 weeks?). I ended up removing alot of material on the lathe to get it where I wanted. The gas block I put on the rifle is not adjustable, I estimated how big to make the gasport, drilled a little undersize, tested and enlarged until reliable ejection (0.128").
The underfolder stock would probably hurt bad with this cartridge. I built a M92 but used a galil side folding stock on it. You may want to do something different than the underfolder. Here is a picture of my m92 SBR (still 7.62x39)

Hoot - One other thing -you'll need to open up the bolt face on the 7.62x39 bolt. But the extractor is OK...

About three-and-a-half years ago, on 9 June 2009, "Warlord21" posted this:

In June 2009, Warlord21 wrote:I have two Galils, one of which I intend to convert to the 45Professional/450Bushmaster.
I will go with a barrel in the original 45 inch twist rate which is 10 inches tighter than I
originally planned to use for use with a 230 grain bullet with 3,000 feet per second
velocity. The .223 Rem Galil will accept the .308 Win Galil bolt with Zero modifications
for use with the .45Professional/450Bushmaster, and I have had the correct bolt for this
conversion for 4 years now.

He has neither posted nor visited the forum since that date. I've wondered since then whether he followed through. At any rate, it's nice to see that Dee2012 had the ambition, patience, and persistence to carry the project to completion.

I remain skeptical of the 3K fps objective with 230 grainers, unless he was intending to obtain it with the 45 Professional.

I've not been able to find any other traces on the internet of a 450B Galil.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the kind words.
I haven't seen another galil build either. I spend alot of time on Uzitalk on the Galil forum and posted about a year ago that I intended on building one but it took most of the year to decide on the barrel and get the blank from McGowen. I've built quite a few galils (10+) in 223, 308 and 5.45x39, have alot of familiarity with the platform and thought this caliber would be a good fit. Instead of using a 308 bolt (which would have worked great but are very expensive) I used a Romy AK bolt which needed a little massaging but works well.
I'm perfectly happy with the Hornady ammo and don't have any intentions on pushing the load to 3000fps (yikes). I am going to tune the rifle some more to see what I can squeeze out for accuracy. I maybe able to get 1 moa, but probably no better due to the inherent AK type of platform. We'll see and I'll post any improvements I find.

Guys. I've achieved 2500+ FPS on the 450 Bushmaster using heavy jacketed 230 grain FMJs. Back in 2009, I'm not so sure how much experimentation had taken place with the 450 Bushmaster and 230 grain FMJs. I do know that pushing the 230 grain at 3000fps has only been achieved using the 450 LeGendre Magnum. See Gunnuts' posts. According to my ballistic testing, the 230 grain FMJ @ 2500fps in the 450 Bushmaster is hovering in pressure ranges beyond SAAMI specs. For these tests, please check out this thread.
