AR 10 upper what cartridge

Postby Kiwi Greg » Sat May 10, 2014 2:06 pm

I would like to put a 452 calibre upper on my Christensen CA 10.
And maybe build some more bolt actions.
The big question is which calibre ?
Just discovered the 45 Raptor yesterday & I got all excited :D
Then I found the 45 LM started to read the 33 page thread & gave up, I have to go out shortly.
So my question is which makes the most sense in say 16-20" barrel.
Can I get good performance from the 450 BM in that length barrel, my 450 BM bolt guns with the 12" barrel get up & go with a healthy dose of Lilgun :)
I guess round length will have an impact on mag feeding so the 450 LM might be the answer ?
What dies & reamer do you use with the 450 LM, just standard 450 BM ?
Cheers thanks for you help.

PS I'm not at all new to wildcatting & all its pitfalls ;)

For me, the extra weight, expense and such of the .308 pattern ARs does not justify the large bores over what you can do with the AR15 pattern. Unless you are going to go for an bottle necked high velocity rifle cartridge, stick with an AR15 pattern. If the .450BM is not enough, read the thread on the .450 Corvette.

Thanks Mark.
I already have the CA 10 & have sold my 300 Blackout AR15.
The .450 Corvette is basically a 450 BM on a longer barrelled & gas system AR15, is that correct ?
Cheers Greg.

Does not have to be a longer barrel, but yes, AR15. Wildcatter has a gas system modification and some pixie dust he uses to be able to run the round up to higher pressures and not tear up the cases/function properly.

I like the sound of this. How long does it take to get the upper back? Total cost?
