Tbk wrote:Ok, sounds like it might be a contender for use in our restricted firearms areas here in Michigan during deer season. I'm not sure there's a significant improvement over the 450 bm performance wise. Looks like a 200 yard max cartridge on deer.

from what i recall reading they say 250 yds.

so 200 and under should be gravy for it.

it will definatly be a contender as there are folks out there who just dont know how to deal with recoil.

with the reduction in recoil promised by this... i see this being a big seller down the road.

will it knock out the 450 ? i dont think so
will it cause bushmaster/Remington to maybe do some innovation within the cartridge - maybe offer a few more suitable bullets, etc - i i hope so! :)

I don't see them going .355... I don't put much faith in that Gingers reporting... He is consistently misspoken.

Ohio for instance, (I'm sure there are others) stipulate .357 or larger. THE reason for this caliber of straight walled deer hunting in these states...

Also this is the first I read of a rebated rim. IF this is the case, they just signed its death warrant for any reloaders. Self included.

There are at least 7-8 threads on this on other boards I have read and commented in.

EDIT: It sure dosen't LOOK rebated...

Competition promotes innovation. We should be stoked when a competitor comes a long. For the hunting i do if i can buy ammo cheaper than 450bm and deal with less recoil and muzzle blast inside my deer blind ill push my 450 stuff to the back of the gun cabinet. Im eagerly awaiting getting my hands on a 350 legend.

you dont have to be the killjoy... if they really did just go there... and thats not a typo - winchester has fully taken the killjoy title for you.

and they probably just sunk the damn cartridge, at least from wide embracing acceptance right out of the box.

had they used a 223 based rim/case dimension without the necking - that would have all but guaranteed it to be a winner long term, because simply speaking reloaders would have been ALLLLLLL over it because of the availability of brass and of course bullets. lets face it - thats one of the reasons the 300 blk has been such a success... most common rifle brass on the planet aside from x39, massive bullet selection in 30 caliber, and uses common magnum pistol powders. the magic word across the board being - common, common, common!

if they went and did a rebated rim - instead of just going with a simple rimless design like the 223 is - it would seem that they're just being greedy at that point and want to control brass production for the first couple years by doing something totally proprietary. which is silly since they went and saami'ed it right away. but i'm no engineer so maybe, somewhere theres a logical reason for what they did. or we can hope at least.

we'll have to wait for the SAAMI drawings to be released to find out what we're working with and see if that "rebated" part is a typo, or if we're talking like a thousandhts or two and a 223 case will work, etc.

sure shot the idea of an early addition to my collection right in the @$$ though :/

From the link i posted above there is this little piece of hope,

"Knowing that Redding is going to produce dies, and eventually someone will publish some load data, I headed downstairs to speak with Starline about brass. They were aware of the 350 and their initial assumption is that people will be able to use their .223 Basic brass, but it will likely need to be trimmed just a hair. That is just an assumption at this point."

Cant wait until all assumptions are confirmed or disproven. Very excited for this cartridge.

Are the xpr rifles they are offering up new? Are they decent rifles?

I'm holding out hope that this is simply more miss peak and a result of "juvenile exuberance"...Simply doesn't make any sense to re create the wheel here...Like the quote that Ginger O'Keef made at shot, about it being .355. Simply doesn't makes sense as it was designed as a hunting caliber for states that allow it. Ohio specifically says .357...WHY not go 357???

In the case of the rebated rim, it "arch" enemy the 450 Bushmaster and IT is a rebated rim and this is where I am saying miss speak. (The writer was thinking 450 and writing 350...)

The quality of everything has dropped... including and especially Journalism. I spent 30 years in the printing industry... Product made today would NOT have been used for ROUGH MOCK UP to show a customer what there product would appear in print. Of coarse, I could be wrong and if I am I 100% agree with Plant & others that stated its a death blow and makes this cartridge near useless to me. (.355 & rebated rim)

Thanks to the heads up from Al, Here's the Link to the SAAMI 350 Legend drawing just released!

Interesting that the mouth is the same OD as the rim but the base is wider. IE Same bolt head size as used in a 5.56x45 AR but the base is .014 wider, no doubt lending to the rebated rim tag. I'm guessing the factory rifles will use the smaller tolerance rim dimension to keep morons from putting a 5.56x45 round in there and firing it!

I find it a bit weird that they spec out a .355 groove, yet they spec a .357 bullet. I guess to get better accuracy from .355 bullets, but I would think they would run into a pressure issue with .357/.358 bullet's, and not get the most performance out of them. Which if correct, would be dumb, because you would most likely be using a .357/.358 to hunt with, so you want to get the most out if it. Maybe you can run slower powders to reduce the peak pressure?

I really want this thing to come out already so we can get actual answers, although, i think I already made my mind up about not getting it. Simply because it doesn't look like I can convert 5.56 brass.
