7.62 x 39 might work for you on smallish deer inside of 100 yards.

13 below right now. :cry: The wx man is saying up to 29 Friday, 34 Saturday and 37 Sunday! It's all relative. The next three days will feel balmy compared to this week. The average for the past 140 hours has been 7 below. Average! They're predicting the temp to trend slowly upwards through the middle of next week. We don't want things thawing too quickly or all this collective snow melting will spawn floods along the major rivers. Oh the monkey bites to shoot are maddening though. Two new calibers to break in and work remaining to do on the 450b. Should be a fun year at the range.
