I had an older buddy of mine give me some of his old reloading components. Some of the old powders he gave me were Herco, 2400, Unique and some IMR-4227. I loaded and shot all the powders in my handguns except this can of 4227. It did not do well in my 41 mag or my 357. I found a posting here for 36.6 grains of 4227 on a 250 FTX. I brought some of these to the range today and shot them last, out of a hot barrel. This is 15 rounds, back to back at 100 yards. I am not a great shot, but I thought they done well. They did better for me than the Lil' Gun loads I brought. I found data for 240 gr XTPs using 4227 but nothing for 200 FTXs. I got some 200 FTX blems from Midway I would like to use with some of this 4227. Anybody got data for 4227 on a 200 FTX?

Not to shabby my friend. I'm sure our resident reloading experts will chime in soon. Just wondering if the burn rate is appropriate for the 200' s?

I do say that!!! And 4227 is an underutilized powder one I like allot, even though some other powders are more efficient, but hey for 25-75fps deficit, it's worth the use, especially if ya got it in stock. Ah-Sides, 4227 is a single based powder and can, or not, have benefits, like accuracy, inside of our envelop parameters.

Use that powder up, prolly something less than a pound anyway, and submit the data, in the DATA BASE area, (Tex? What's up with submitting data, I gotta ton to get in there) and then tell us how you liked it..

IMR4227 is fluffier and slower than Lil Gun. Gives up about 150fps for the same charge weight from a 20" barrel in QuickLoad using the 200 FTX. It would be a better choice for heavier bullets, but will work with the 200 FTX. Use a hot primer like the Rem 7 1/2, WSR or GM205M.

Depending upon how much that can you have has changed characteristics due to its age and how it was stored, you could go 40gr with the 200 seated to just bury the cannelure and the taper crimp driven into it. Safety would dictate starting around 36gr and working up.

If and that's an important if, it hasn't changed characteristics at all, 40gr S/B a great load. You'll be hard pressed to fit more of it in than that without compressing the load.
