Clark ntn-

Welcome to the 450B web forum !

For bullets in the 225-260 grain range, a general consensus is that it's hard to beat the results with Hodgdon's Lil'Gun powder. Either WW 296 or H110 is also pretty good.

HOWEVER, it could be helpful if you describe your reasons for using the 250-grain XTP .452 bullet. This bullet was designed by Hornady for cartridges and arms producing velocities much less that of the 450B. Hornady shows it for velocities up to a max of 1400 fps. If used at the 2200+ fps possible from the 450B, it's likely to come apart badly. For plinking, that's of no concern of course. Otherwise, perhaps you should consider the 240-grain XTP-MAG bullet, or the 250-grain FTX.

As a side note, for questions about reloading the 450B you are likely to obtain responses that are more prompt and informative if you post in the forum intended for 450B questions ("Reloading for the 450b"). The "Reloading" forum is intended for more general questions. And yes, it is confusing to first-time visitors.

Welcome. As Pitted Bore said, those bullets are fine for plinking but please don't use them for hunting. The FTX is a much better choice. Get over to the reloading section and be prepared to wade through all kinds of great information. There's tons of great knowledge here!

+1 to what everybody is saying. I have two pieces embedded in the front of my chrony and one in the skyscreen. While two of those pieces are from a Berry's Bullets experiment, the other is from the 230gr XTP. Luckily, despite being stuck in the protective plastic screen, they did not penetrate to the actual LCD display a millimeter behind it, but be warned. I have loaded several boxes of the 240gr XTP Mag and a box of the 300 XTP Mag bullets without a mishap. If cost is an issue, consider the Hornady 225gr FTX. They can be bought for $25.00 per box of 100 and are a true .452 bullet to boot.
