I am going to start reloading my .450BM brass...

1. What is the best bullet for plinking? (As much as you can call it plinking with this round)
- I would prefer a jacketed bullet, but not a requirement.
- I am looking more for a cheaper reload, probably around $0.70 per round or less would be great (assuming I have the brass).

2. What powder/load would work best with answer 1?

Not really worried about 1" groups with reloads, but I would like to be able to reliably hit a target at 100yrds.

Are the Mag Tech 230 Grain FMJs, Hornady 230 FMJ Flat Points.
Lil Gun Powder is the cats meow. And if you ask hoot real nice, he can make you a great bargain on a LeGendre side crimp to use on those puppies. Be sure to tell him you want the Texas Sheepdawg style side crimp!
I use mine for all my FMJ loads and my results are very impressive.

You can also try the Hornady FTX 225 grain bullets. Watch for blems from Midway for the best deals. People usually post a notice, when these bullets are available.

They run one or two pennies each more than Magtech 230gr FMJ, but they are by far the most accurate bullet I've shot from my 450b with 20" barrel and they lend well to just using the taper crimp die that comes with your set.

Now for one more question...

If I get the Hornady Series V .450 reload dies... Can I use the shell holder for .45 auto rounds as well? So I can buy a Series II or III .45 reload die set?

Or am I going to get a shell holder with the .45 reload set as well? Both sets will be Hornady.

I needed to buy them separately from both my die set and my Hornady reloading kit, and I had to call Hornady to confirm which one to use. They are pretty cheap. For example $5 each from Hornady. The sell a pack of 5 for $20 - worthwhile to have a few spares.

The shell holder for the 450b just so happens to be about the most common centerfire shell holder out there. IE

I have been able to use Both the #1 & #2 Hornady shell holder and the #2 RCBS shell holder or my 450/45ACP operations.

Anyone tried to load the 275 barnes, I think it's the TSX or the TSX tipped??? If so what powder did you use and with what results??

And is there any heavy Keith style lead bullets I can use to reload in the 450. Will the 450b feed that type of bullet.

I just got my upper and haven't even shot it yet, but have two cases of Hornaday and Remington coming. I figured for the price of brass I may as well buy loaded and start from there.

Oh I almost forgot,Remington is going to run some Hog hammer ammo mid Sept so if you want some they are only going to run it for three days, I talk to them yesterday, said it would be on the shelves around 1st of Oct.

As you can see I am new to the forum but I've reloaded for over 40 years, just shotgun, 7mm nasty down the hot little 22 center fire.

I am really hyped up about these big guns, old age I just, don't have to have the latest and fastest gun anymore it's now all about MORE POWER so says Tim the tool man anyway.

You will find load info for the Barnes 275 xpb herein great detail. Unfortunately I do not have the posts saved but if you search with the search function you will find something. I've had good luck with the said bullet with 36 grains of lil gun loaded to 2.257 coal taper crimped to .475.
