Hornady 45201 vs 45202

Bear with me as I am new to the 450 bushmaster and reloading in general. Would someone please explain to me what the difference is between hornady part # 45201 and 45202, besides around $6 in MSRP?

While I've never cleaved the 45202, to compare it under to microscope to the 45201, I seem to recall reading of members commenting that the 202s expanded less for the same velocity. Also, the tips were reported to be made from a slightly harder plastic.
Sounds like a good topic to do a range report comparison with water shots.

Asked Hornady tech types about these two bullets...turns out, they are exactly the same except for the polymer tip:

They are the same bullet we have given them two item numbers for internal office tracking based upon their sales application. The bullet has developed a great reputation in cartridges like the 450 Bushmaster and its Black Powder application. Great bullet no matter which way you use it.

I bought mine at a gun show. The ML version was 22.69 and the FTX version was 28.69. The packages including all text are identical except the FTX box was 20% larger for no rational purpose. If you look at the hornady website and search for the 450 bushmaster loaded ammunition, it states that the bullet is the 452 SST-ML which is the muzzleloader version. The tips might be slightly harder, but I couldn't tell the difference just poking at them with my fingernail or a small pocket knife.

A couple of years ago, I called a very close friend who has a brother that works in the Hornady plant in Nebraska. Had my friend ask his brother this same question. According to the Hornady factory employee, the difference in the two bullets is the box into which they are placed. Absolutely no differences in polymer tips or any other aspects. Some are sold as "muzzleloading bullets"; some are sold as "450 Bushmaster bullets".
