Some of us use the Hornady 230 gr FMJ FP .452 bullet for mild to wild loads. It has handled everything I have heard about on the forums. I'm sure there are many others that will do what you want. As usual start low and work your way up, YMMV.

Would anybody have a link to some ?

Even if out of stock at the moment.

I seem to be striking out with my web search.

Thanks :ugeek:

Hornady may have discontinued their Hornady 230 gr FMJ FP as it is not listed even on the Hornady Web Site. I suspect if you can find them retail, they will be N.O.S.

As an alternative, Nosler does make and sell an equivalent for about $.24 each

All that having been said, regular FMJs are good plinking rounds as well and much easier to find than the FMJ FP.

Beleive it or not, I like the 225gr FTX for plinking. Find them on sale or when Midway has their bulk sale and they can be as cheap as 230 FMJs. My experience with them has been more accurate than the 230 FMJ, but I can only speak for myself.

They are $.27 each here: http://www.manventureoutpost.com/products/Hornady-45218-Fle-Tip-45Cal-452-225gr-%28Per-100%29.html

That would probably explain why all I could find was RN.

I will keep an eye on Midway for bulk prices, but I might grab a box from your link after I check around a bit as they only have 2 left.

At least that way I could work up a bit of my own load data on them while waiting for a sale.

Thank You ! :D

Yes, check Midway for .452 225 gr FTX blems (or other weights), which they have from time to time. Sometimes they are listed as smoothbore .50 cal sabot rounds.

Hi-tech ammo has new 230 gr. RN FMJ's for $140.00 per 1000 plus shipping. They usually have air pulled 230 FMJ's for $128.00 per 1000 but show out of stock now.

That's actually a very good deal on 230 FMJ. $.19 each including local sales tax if you use free ship to store and Hornady makes a good product. manventureoutpost.com has them for $.17 each, but shipping puts the cost back up to what you can get them from Cabelas for.

I'd say "There's your plinking ammo right there!" Also, there are a lot of load recipes for the 230s. Don't consider them if you are going to try and use a slow powder more appropriate for 350gr bullets.

EDIT: I doubled with Mike.
