Hoot wrote:That's actually a very good deal on 230 FMJ. $.19 each including local sales tax if you use free ship to store and Hornady makes a good product. manventureoutpost.com has them for $.17 each, but shipping puts the cost back up to what you can get them from Cabelas for.

Yes, saw them when I saw the 275 Barnes on sale.
If you like the flat points SPS usually has the Nosler blemished at a good price. Probably about the same when you add shipping.

For plinkers , flat or RN doesn't matter to me, I am mostly just thinking cost.

I will probably put them over Lil Gun or 110 instead of my slower stuff.

I have a few that would be way to fast like #5 and 231.

Thanks for all the links and options !

The cheapest I've found for actual jacketed projectiles (not plated) is from Precision Delta. Just under 12ยข each but you gotta buy 2000 at a whack though so that might be too much for ya.

I've done a lot of work with the 230 grain FMJs. Granted, I found that using the LSC for the hotter loads is best. But. If you just want to play around with lower charges, you can stay around the 39-40 grains with the standard taper crimp and get fair performance. I will add links here to several of my tests.

Reloading data for 230 grain FMJ bullets can be found in the Western Powders Reloading & Load Data Guide. I have edition 6. There isn't a charge for the manual if you download it from their website. A Sierra 230 grain bullet was used by Western Powders in developing the load data. You will find loading for the following powders: Accurate No. 9, Ramshot Enforcer, Accurate 4100, Accurate 5744 and Accurate 1680.
