300 Grain loads...

Looking back thru 7 Pages I only see 2/3 postings with 300G bullets...

I have a couple hundred bullets from sales @ Midway and would like to use this bullet.

Yesterday I loaded up three powders and all where pretty good bun nothing was settled upon.... IMR4227, AA1680 & 5744

I couldn't shoot out to 100 until a couple hours after I got to the range and did not get to set up the chrony again.. GRR
BUT all shot well enough to use for my purposes. This has always been the case with this rifle. ALL loads seem really good!

Here is the 1680 Target, shot @ 100 Yards. The bottom right was first. it was a clean bore so I'm disregarding first shot. (labeled 1 & almost in center of paper) I shot three shot groups and went back after and fired two more of the first load at the bottom right. Bottom left was top loading and 1/2G over max (ZERO pressure signs, but I seated very long)

I somehow deleted the pics of the other two loads when I was cropping, must thought them duplicates...

Any how, not to shabby and noticeable increase in recoil and muzzle flash with 1680. $227 seemed to recoil even more but with substantially less flash.

my pet 300gr XTP mag load is overbook at 45gr 1680, but is one of the most accurate loads I've shot the only load I use in my 16" AR nowdays.

1680 I have found to very forgiving pressure wise in the big bores.

Al,
I looked at my load data last night. The above photo and my top load was 42G. No pressure signs, doubt I would see any at the OAL I load them to either! I'll have to try some more powder!

What velocities are you getting with the 300? I'm about to order some. I was wondering is it safe / responsible to push these things 2200 feet a second with a 16 in AR?

The answer is as far as the bullet is conserned. You simply need to compair to muzzle loader velocities.

Some of the 150g loads from long barrels must be in this range. I have not looked but I dont worry allot about velocity. Meaning once Im in the velocity range, my loads are accuracy driven. Im a hunter then a shooter. This caliber is more a hunter for me.

I have a couple ladder loads on my bench just waitin on time to try them.
This will prove safety and accuracy in MY GUN.
