hello brand new to this forum and the 450BM. Just bought a BCA side charger on sale last weekend and now i need to get ready for the range

living in the socialist states of america (a.k.a. CA) i reload everything i shoot. i already load for 45ACP and was hoping to get some data to use with existing hard cast bullets i use. the bullets are 225gr TC profile Hi-Tek coated (http://www.bayoubullets.net/45-acp-225-gr-tc-500-ct/). I know typically lead recipes use less powder than jacketed so i was curious if anyone had something for plinking i could start with. not looking for any crazy accuracy, just trying to make some cheap ammo to play at the range with. I currently have AA #9 & H110 on hand powder wise.

P.S. i am hoping to reuse some old pmags i have laying around for the time being which is another reason i want to use a bullet profile that has a shorter OAL. I know i will still need to mod the mag probably but hoping to avoid cutting out the front rib. TIA!

I was reluctant to reply as I don't do cast boolits in an AR platform but I didn't want you to feel neglected. Come to think of it, I don't do cast boolits period.

Since you're new to the 450b and reloading for it, might I suggest that you start out with lower hanging fruit? The jacketed 225 FTX is a dream to get loaded right in this caliber. Great for the ego to boot as they'll shoot MOA groups at 100 yds with Lil Gun powder and a hot primer. Once you get comfortable with success, then move into the challenge of cast boolits.

Hopefully others who have slaved getting cast boolits to shoot in an AR variant of this caliber will wade in with some pearls of wisdom, such as "Don't"

BTW, post reloading questions for the 450b in the Reloading for the 450b sub-forum, for more responses. This sub-forum is more akin to general reloading for any caliber questions.

thanks Hoot! appreciate it. I take the cast bullets aren't ideal to heart I'll also post in the correct forum from now on.

I love the 225 FTX. Very accurate.

Did this with my Bear Creek barrel at 100 yds.

BCA barrels are pretty amazing considering how cheap they are! That is pretty nice shooting btw

I think I impressed myself, considering I was just using a Vortex Strikefire dot sight.

I'm tempted to go to a scope sometime, but I 've got it sighted it good now and hate to start over.

At the vel the 450 getts with the 225 it might not be a good idea. I would suggest to try and throttle down as a starter and work up till leading start. I have been using the Hornady 225 my self with h110 powder

There are plenty of range report threads around here that utilize different primers. Since the 450b uses a small rifle primer, your large ones won't be of much use.
My preference in primers for the 450b are as follows (in order of preference): Remington 7 1/2, Winchester SR, CCI 450 with Federal GM205M bringing up the rear. The CCI 450 is technically a magnum primer.

While I prefer the Remington 7 1/2 primer, some members report still having a hard time sourcing them near where they live despite the Sandy Hook panic being 7 years behind us.

OK I have small rifle primers as well. I assumed it would use large, sorry newbie here. I have the federal GM205MAR match ones. I can get that same primer in magnum. Would that be better? I'm in Hawaii so at the mercy of whatever my gunstores have.
