Hi everyone,

I have been surfing all of this site for the last month since I am considering getting a 450. I am a basic handloader, but long time shooter. I have read the thread where 300 gr projos appeared to not be stabalized properly out to 200. I was wondering if the 1/24 twist would be more efficient for these heavier loads out of a 20" barrel?

I know for example, 75-77 gr 223 loads don't always stabalize out of a 1/9 16" barrel but sometimes do out of a 20 or 24".

Thoughts?

I must have missed the posts about the 300 grn bullets not stabilizing.

I think one of the members here just killed a deer with a 300 grn bullet.

The 400 grainers I tried stabilized at subsonic velocities. I'd think 300 grainers would be fine.

You are correct Siringo killed a buck with a 300 gr. Nosler HG Partition. Pics are in the Trophy section - "2009 Hunting Pictures"

At 200 yards the accuracy went south so it was speculated that the 300 were totally stablized.

I had attributed that particular instance to a poor fit for that particular boolit in that particular gun. It didn't shoot well even at 100 yards.
