reloading question

Postby dale » Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:41 am

Hi, does anybody know the differences between .270 bullets, and 6.8 spc???? they're both .277 od, but i've found some 115 gr fmj's for the 6.8, is there any reason why i can't reload them in .270??? (bullet length, etc.???)
thanks

No difference in the bullet. No reason not to load them. I am not speaking from experience, just what I've read.

In Theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In Practice, there is.

Hoot is correct, any normal .277" bullet will fly down your .277/270 Barrel. Normal loading and safety practices must be observed, minor difference in the die adjustments will occur..t

As mentioned by both above, they are the same diameter. The main difference is most 6.8s won't shoot bullets over about 130grs very well, so a lot of the lighter bullets that are being introduced were designed for the 6.8 in mind. You could certainly load them in the 270 as well. You should be able to get a fair amount more velocity loading it out of the 270.

cool, thanks for the replies. most of the 270 bullets ive found are hunting/expanding, i figure the fmj 115's will get some good velocities, and better penetration.
i finally decided to start reloading, after reading all the info on this board. went to cabelas today and got lots of stuff. gonna start out on 270 and 223. i have lots of empties for those. after a while i'll get into the 450 reloads. guess i need to empty out a bunch of 450 factory loads
thanks
