Funny you mention that!

Theirs a new guy at work that has property up in Red Bluff, He's been taking people on guided Pig/Varmint/Predator hunts, Has a few houses on the prop and offers many different types of hunts, Says he can put a hunter on a pig no problem, Has put people on pigs in excess of 200 lbs, I've got my hunt planed for the cooler months ahead (better eating). Let me know if your interested and I'll get his Info to you.

Now to find a rifle to make my own "redneck assault lever gun" :D

Slash, I found that Rossi makes a 16" in 44, 45lc, 357/38, 45-70 and 454 casual, Their a fellow on GB who sells then New for just under $500 shipped, I'm thinking about picking up the 44 mag, and going the same way with the sights as you did, Any opinions on the Rossi firearms?

Thanks

I don't know anything about the Rossi's other than they are a Winchester copy, but I think the 44 is a good choice. You have to hand load in order to get the 45 colt to outperform a 44. With the 44 you have the 44 special for plinking and the 44 magnum if you need stopping power, plus the ammo is readily available everywhere. However if you want REAL horsepower, the 454 is a beast of a round, plus a 454 will shoot 45 colt.

You'll have to find different sights than I used, mine are Marlin specific, but there are plenty of sight options available for that style of gun, just remember that those are top ejectors and the receiver sights have to accommodate the open top.

Two very good points! Thanks

I think I will go with the 454 then, Have plans on getting a 45lc wheel gun some day and that would be pretty cool.

To your knowledge will the 454 dies reload the 45LC? Seems they would.

You can load either with standard 45 colt dies, they are interchangeable.

A .454 Casull rifle will be pretty similar in performance to your 450B, just lever activated and a little slower to reload. My quickloads program shows it spitting 240 gr XTP/MAGs out of a 16" barrel at 2250 fps with 37 grs of Lil'gun at 48,678 psi. SAAMI max is 65,000. That should be fun for 5.5 lb rifle!

I wouldn't think it's a good choice, too fast. 17 grs gets you near 30,000 psi, only fills the case 59% and spits a 240 gr bullet out at only 1665 fps. That's according to quickloads, and quickloads should only be used as a rough guideline as you SLOWLY work up untested loads. And remember, I'm a tenderfoot when it comes to reloading compared to a few of the guys here, take anything I say with a grain of salt. You'd be wise running that question past some of the big dogs.
