Gun shows, Cabelas and Pistols. Oh My!!

Postby Texas Sheepdawg » Sat Feb 11, 2012 7:40 pm

We took a drive up to Durant, OK for a gun show today, found a pistol that Carol wanted but they don't sell to non-residents. So we took off and drove to Cabelas in Allen, TX and found exactly what we were looking for plus a little bonus!
Oh, Cabelas loves us tonight! Walked out with his and hers 22 pistols and a holster and a gun safe!

Go Dawg. I wish they had a Cabelas here in Houston. I was up at that Cabelas last week. Cheaper Than Dirt too. I was disappointed that CTD don't sell reloading components. The guy told me the reloading components were bannned by city counsel because they are too dangerous. Go figure. I went into Dick's too. What a waste of my time. Nothing there but clothes. I got enough clothes.

The Cabelas in Allen is about 35 minutes from my house and about 15 minutes from work. Cabelas has a good selection of reloading supplies. CTD in McKinney can give some stupid excuses, but that's okay. My money goes to those who meet my needs. There is a reloading shop in Whitesboro, TX and the gun shows have some decent selections. I mainly try to buy primers and powders local. I don't like to pay shipping on that stuff. Cabelas also has primer and powder.
Dicks is just for people with more $$$$$ than they know what to do with, and is basically a spinoff of Oshmans, a sporting goods store that liked to make folks believe only rich people hunt and fish. I've never walked out of Dicks with a purchase... Not that I can remember anyway.

That's a good day Tex! Guess that answers your question of what 22 pistol to buy.

Let me second the motion that Cabelas needs to open a store in Houston!!! Why they settled on Buda, Texas, my nearest (3 hours away), is a mystery. The nearest big city to Buda is Austin, which many people don't even consider part of Texas (apologies to anyone on this board who lives in Austin). Anyway we have two Carter Country stores and two Bass Pro Shops - both of which carry reloading supplies plus guns and ammo (also in Bass Pro, reasonably priced clothers), and many independent gun stores, plus gun shows almost every weekend between Houston and nearby Pasadena and Conroe.

God's country.

Carter Country? Oh no, now we gotta get one or two of those! But my consolation is that I have
2 Cabelas
2 Bass Pro Shops
2 Cheaper Than Dirts,
1 Gander Mountain
3+ Academy Sports
All within 1 1/2 hours of the farm.

And three Lowes, Home Depots, and Walmarts 25-30 miles away.
Have gun, will travel.

I love all those places, but Collectors Firearms here in Houston is awesome. They boast 10,000 guns. New and used. Old Rugers, old Winchesters, old Colts, you name it. Like a gunshow everyday. They have a website that I check everyday. Never know what you will find. Just like this site.
