WC We are shooting the same bullets as magnum muzzle loaders. We are having the same problems with bullet choice as they are. They have learned what works. With performance there is no free lunch ie cheap bullets poor performance. :D

The only problem I have is my ADHD making it difficult to choose. To a point of panic attacks. LOL.

One of the members here posted a link to a Savage ml10 muzzle loader site when discussing bullets and performance. They referenced the Hornady bullet selection chart. The smokeless muzzle loaders are driving a Parker 275 gr bullet at +3000fps. When the inline started they used pistol bullets with poor performance on game. :P

Yeah. We do have to choose carefully. The XTP bullet jacket is an issue that concerned me. The XTP Mag jackets are much better. Also the hardness of the lead core.
The Jacket has to be durable enough to get the bullet downrange and the lead has to be the right hardness to give us the controlled expansion at the distance we shot to. Then the jacket must once again control the expansion of the lead core so that the energy pulse is completely delivered yet not frag out and destroy yummy back straps. Too bad the MFG companies don't always elaborate fully on lead hardness and jacket thickness of their bullets. It would sure make My R&D a lot easier.

back in the late 80's or early 90's, Freedom Arms had a couple of good bullets, flat points, thicker jackets and with around a 18bhn hard core.

Nosler use to have a nice 45cal Partition that some of us would reform the nose with a #4 buck pellet and drive north of 2700fps in our smokeless ML's, those things really put the hurts on deer.
