450 bm groundhog hunting

Postby Dave selepack » Mon Apr 27, 2015 5:18 pm

Are there any groundhog hunter's using 450 bm, wandering what bullets you like, and any rogue groundhog charges that might have happen. They can be some fiesty critters, don't corner them in the sweet corn patch. Might have to fix bayonets. Thank you all for making this the best forum in town. GOD BLESS!!!

Hey Davey,

I have a couple of times.

You know how when you shoot something, the temporary wound collapses down on itself virtually sealing the hole back up? Well, I caught a ground hog in the open and it stood up. I took a center mass shot and hit it dead center in the chest. I kid you not, I could easily see day-light through the animal!! It stayed sitting up for a couple of weeks, until a critter came by and ate it! The 450 Bushy actually blew a hole clean through the ground hog!!

The hole was 1-2' in diameter. You could see day light, clean threw the animal. I was using 230gr FP-FMJ's @ 2800fps +-? This was a long time ago, so I don't remember the load or speeds, but it was way beyond SAAMI, SO DON'T ANY OF YOU, READING THIS, TRY LOADING TO THESE SPEEDS, IT's WAY TO DANGEROUS!!

Can't believe that the round did not throw the groundhog into the next county?

...I guess, it would be like 'straw through a fence post'...because of hurricane speeds...
