line throwing gun

I wonder if anyone can direct me in the way of load data/pressures/etc. for 45-70 line throwing guns. I realize that it doesn't pertain to our load in the present, but it doesn't mean it has to stay that way. 8-)

this kit looks to be a short barreled H&R 45-70 with a can of rope on it.

it says if you remove the rope canister it is an illegal weapon...

i'm having visions of a picatiny rail mounted rope canister

Yep, thats essentially what it is, except it does not have rifling in the barrel. And yes, I was having those same visions last night.

I'm sure that there is a mil spec for the cartridge, since it is a Navy and USCG item. I just don't know where to find it.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=154330407

i saw this on gun broker

here is what i found on wikipedia
The .45-70 cartridge is still used by the U.S. military today, in the form of the CARTRIDGE, CALIBER .45, LINE THROWING, M32, a blank cartridge which is used in a number of models of line throwing guns used by the Navy and Coast Guard. Early models of these line throwing guns were made from modified Trapdoor and Sharps rifles, while later models are built on break-open single-shot rifle actions.

The ones we use here in the USCG are an M16 with a device put on the barrel and using blanks, and a Springfield 1903 Shoulder Line throwing gun that shot Blanks as well. Range was between about 300-800 feet, depending on the gun used, and they were pretty fun to shoot. Ill have to dig around and see if ive got any photos or videos of us shooting them.

I was stationed on the USCGC Liberty out of Juneau, AK at the time. Now I'm stationed at the Airstation in Sitka.

Lucky duck, I always loved that area. So the 450, was your interest because of the Moose and Bears all around you?

I wish lol. I'm a FL native, and bought it mainly for hogs back down south. I've loved living here in AK and might try and comeback to one of the AirSta's up here one day but for now I'm transfering to school till sep in NC and after that im hoping for either Airstation Savannah, or New Orleans. I never got much into hunting up here. The fishing is amazing though ;)
