Buffer and spring change needed with .450?

Postby firehawk » Wed Dec 28, 2011 8:53 pm

Currently I have a standard carbine buffer spring but do have a Spikes powdered tungsten (ST1) buffer in the lower I have my 5.56 upper on. This is the lower I plan on using with the .450 upper, at least for now. Any problems with using this buffer and spring? Is the .450 BCG heavier than a 5.56 BCG?

If I decide on building a dedicated lower for the .450 is there a better buffer/spring set up?

Spring, buffer and carrier are same as standard AR specs. The bolt is the only different component on the carrier. I went through this Q&A with Wildcatter and he says the stock buffers and springs are fine. He saved me $$$, as I was about to sink funds into some Enidine buffers.

Thanks for the info. Just curious....since I already had a BCM BCG I didn't use the "premium" BCG that came with the Palmetto upper. I'm unfamiliar with Bushmaster, any chance the Palmetto BC might be a higher quality BC? I could swap the .450 bolt into the Palmetto BC.

Just a thought as it's just sitting around.

The BCG for bushmaster is about on par with other prominent BCGs. There are other higher quality BCGs such as TiN and Nickel Boron and Brownells has some very high quality units but it really falls down to what you are looking for as far as function and or what you want to pay. Some BCGs don't have the forward assist and dust cover machinings, designed for slick-side uppers. There are several variations.

Oooooh.... That has an ominous "tone" to it.

It's no biggie, like I said I have no experience with Bushmaster so I am ignorant concerning them. I guess if the gas key is staked ok, I'm good to go. As much as I hate to admit it, maybe I've been browsing M4C.net too much. You know, "The Chart" and all that drivel.

I couldn't swear to it, and I wouldn't wanna bet, but I think Bushmaster might have been getting their parts from the same MFGs as DPMS & YHM and some of the Bushmaster accessories I'm pretty sure came from YHM, but since the Freedom Group took over, who knows..... And that's a can of worms that's been sitting on the tailgate for 10 hours in Texas on a hot July day. We don't want to go there.

Well maybe if I sneak up up wind to that can and inquire. Isn't DPMS and Bushmaster now part of Remington? I know H&R, NEF, and Marlin are.

I have an anxiety attack just thinking about it.
