That is indeed a fine rig! With that 20" 1:16 barrel in a bolt gun, you could probably sling the Barnes 275gr XPB or the 325gr Buster at some impressive speeds. Talk about a couple of potential DRT loads!...wow.

Thanks guys ! I did all the work myself and learned a lot. I am not in love with my paint job, I love the color combo but I want to redo the design a bit.

Wow! That is just beautiful...

The AR platform 450b is crazy accurate...I assume it does very well in a bolt gun also? I haven't really heard about that from any of the guys shooting it in a bolt action, that I can remember...?

I know for a fact that ruger will do 3/4 moa at 100, not to damn bad for a 500 dollar rifle.

Since I built the first ever bolt rifle in 450B (page 1 of this picture thread), it seemed appropriate to obtain one of the first commercial bolt rifles. I didn't really want a short barrel, so I waited until the 22" RARs became available at Randy's. My CM version arrived toward the end of February.

I decided to take it on a hog hunt in Texas in early March, so I put a scope on it and headed for the range to sight it in. Bore sighted, it was pretty close to "on "a 50 yards with Hornady factory 250s. The second session about a week later went pretty well working up velocities for a handload. The third session for a final sighting had some shot scatterd because I was shivering.

The day was bright enough for photos. Natch, the range was snowy -- this is the U.P. of Michigan after all. (A month later the snow is still there, although spring is gaining on it.)

The scope is a Zeiss Diatal-C fixed 6X32 from the mid-90s. That scope is supposed to resist recoil damage well, and with a hotter handload the rifle does bounce. The scope also has a rubber-armored ocular to minimize the chance of joining the Brotherhood of the Half-Moon Scar.

I'll post some further information in the reloading and trophy forums.
