Caldwell just came out with an "inverted" chrony with LED lights, lithium battery, and tripod:

That's a great way to get rid of sun interference. I love simple solutions like that. Already has me thinking about a method to do that with my cheapo Chrony unit. There are times of the day, at the local range, where I'm plagued by errors that seem to be sun position related. Tried marking my bullets with a Sharpie, but to no avail.

With a standard design chrony you could probably remove the plastic "sky filters", and replace them with something flat, painted white...then invert the unit on its legs, maybe providing a mounting hole for each leg... :?:
