Was at the local gun shop and he had the mega arms billet side charging upper and matching lower. Nice looking stuff, but the flats of the hex shape are larger on the upper than the mating lower in the stock tube mounting ring. Thought they could have done a better job of that. Also it still has the large hole for a rear charging lever with no easy way to plug it like some other side charging uppers. What surprised me was he pushed the upper and lower together to show how well they fit and neither of us could get them back apart. He said it was due to the tight tolerances and it would work itself out after being built and opened/closed a few times. I know my browning citori was/is super tight and was told it also was built to work in. So when its worn in, its right on and not lose. Any opinions on this?

The mega experience just didn't sit well with me, so I emailed them directly. I did a follow up reply to clarify if the side charging upper was physically bigger, hence the reason it didn't match the lower in the buffer tube interface area. Here is the reply.
Yes, it is much bigger and heavier! Not really suited for anything other than bench rest applications. We first made those for Alexander Arms, which we still do, but also sell them under out brand as well.

Found BCA also sells a cheap upper side charging. Since its labeled as such, its likely from the same manufacturer as the other one I posted and "branded" as BCA. Note in some of the pics you can clearly see its much larger than the lower receiver in the buffer tube threaded area. This is exactly what I encountered at the store with the mega upper and lower put together. I get the feeling these are all built by mega.

Well I watched a few videos about accuracy with an AR by John Carlos. He said bolt tilt was one of the top issues that could be addressed. He drills/taps the underside of the bolt to accept a couple button head screws. I would think they would hit the receiver on their stroke back in and cause issues and wear. It got me thinking how mixing manufacturers could lead to sloppy fit. Looking at Youngs Manufacturing website for match grade bcg's I noticed they also manufacture side charging receivers and bcg's. Now Im leaning towards their product.

They offer a complete receiver/bcg but my barrel will come with a bolt so no need to buy one with a 223/5.56 one I wont use.

Does anyone have any experience with this upper. Will it eject 450 without any modification?
