range day 30rar

got to the range today to give the 110gr nosler varmageddon a try and boy it was a hit :D . I did a ladder with aa2200 from 37gr at 2918fps to 39.6gr at 3115fps all loads had great looking brass after words no swipes and still tite primers. I did 8 loads with 2 shots each between 37gr to 39.6gr and all shots stayed with in a 2in black shoot and see circle . I'm going to load up 10rds of aa2200 with 38.5 grs at 3022fps and call it good and save the stress on the brass . I also did a ladder with h4198 between 33.5gr to 34.8gr 6 loads 2 shot each . 34.8 only got up to 2955fps but far as grouping it shot better than aa2200 just not as fast but I think theres room to grow with h4198 I'm going to do a few more loads up to 35.5gr should get well over 3000fps . All rounds with rem 7 1/2 primer loaded at 2.165 / 1.617 oal :D

Good work there. I got a jug of AA2200 to experiment with this year. Sure ain't gonna happen when the highs are in the teens and 20's though. I'm not that committed. Boy, we have been on a weather roller coaster this year. Last week, I drove home to a tornado on the ground and woke up the next day with snow on the ground. that was followed by gale force winds for three days, two nights and then the plunge down near zero. Waiting for the toads to rain down or swarms of locusts to swoop down upon us... :?

Well Hoot went back to the range I bumped up the h4198 to 35.2 grs with the nosler 110gr varmageddon shoots just over 3000fps and group great could ask for anything better :D ill use this round for daytime hog hunting in the brown camo 30rar . The aa2200 is 150fps faster the keeper load came quicker with the h4198

Here's how my luck went. I loaded up calibration rounds using AA2200 and Hornady 125gr SST bullets, like I used for the other powders. Apples for Apples. I also loaded up a rank of 5 of those Lapua 100gr HPCE. Very odd bullets. As I drove up to the gate at the club, the glint of sunlight off of the newly replaced lock caught my eye. In that moment of abject disappointment, I remembered that March 15th, we re-key or replace the locks each year. Then I remember that I forgot to get my new key at the meeting last Tuesday. Luckily, its only 10 minutes from the house. Beware the Ides of March!

Live to shoot another cold, windy day...

I'm going to work up some loads for noslers 125gr A/B using aa2200 also probably start off at 37gr and go up to 38gr see how things look without trashing brass. Also going to work on the 224 Predator ( 6.5 Grendel necked down to 224 cool and fast little round )
