Ruger / Boyd's info help

Postby Zkovach » Sat Feb 18, 2017 9:53 am

I got a buddy who just picked up the 22" stainless and he wants to swap the stock out with a Boyd's. He was asking me these questions but I don't have the answers given I don't have a ruger. Please help....

1. Model:? American ranch or American center fire?
2. Long or short action?

Anybody used a Boyd's for their ruger 450?

Doing a little research here looks like the ranch model and given short actions are typically 2.8" or shorter I'm guessing this is a short action with hornady ammo at 2.5"...

Somebody say something if I'm incorrect please

Can't say for sure, but I don't see why they would put it in a long action.

Try contacting Boyd's and see if they have an idea of what stock will fit.

Any updates on this? If I remember correctly it's a 308 mag used for the 450 so not sure the ranch model will work. But I could just be over thinking this lol.

I was curious what Boyd's people were using? I see a lot of pictures with the Boyd's thumbhole stock, wondering what configuration, and if you had to modify the stock at all?

Yes Its a short action from boyds. I got their at-one stock and it’s pretty sweet!

So no mods to the stock to fit the Ruger American?

+1 on the Boyd's Thumbhole Varminter stock. My favorite bolt action stock profile. I own multiple actions mounted in them, though admittedly not one in 450b. They just come up perfectly when mounting them to the shoulder for me. Very natural ergonomic fit.

ive got the varmint thumbhole on my a17 - awesome stock. absolutely love it. fits like a glove for me.

for my a17 it was drop in fit. no fuss, no drama. plug and play!

when i did an SSEvolution on my savage 93 i had to file about 1/8" wood out of the safety groove to get a proper fit. 10 seconds with a dremel with a sanding drum on it.

if i ever restock my 10/22 its getting an evo too.
