Anyone shot Black Butterfly 275 XPB?

Postby buckeye3405 » Tue Jan 16, 2018 11:04 am

I'm going to SC for a public land hog hunt the first week of March. I've been using the standard Hornady 250Gr FTX for Ohio deer and it's performed well. Should I spend the $ and try the 275gr Black Butterfly or stick with the 250gr FTX? I've been debating this with myself for weeks. What say you folks?

I agree with Al on the 275s.
We would love a report back with data and post mortem pics and a pic of the recovered bullet/s if possible.

Guess I’ll pick up a box or maybe a couple of the sample boxes to see how it shoots first.

Don’t feel bad. Personally, I’ve probably spent a couple grand experimenting with this round so that others wouldn’t have to.... including two more rifles, optics and reloading supplies. Hell, one of my scopes cost $4500.00 (Pulsar XP38 Trail)

I am wanting to try them too. I got my AR 15 450 BM a couple of weeks ago and have shot 2 hogs with Hornady Black 250 grain FTX bullets. The Hornady worked nicely but I am wanting to try a copper bullet. I have shot a few deer with a Muzzle loader using Barnes copper Sabot bullets, the last 6 with the Barnes TEZ sabot and bullet. All shots passed thru so I never got to see what the mushroomed bullet looked like. I assume the 275 XPB will work nicely for you.

I wouldn't spend the money. The 250 gr FTX, or even the 225 if you reload, are great rounds for hogs.

I have a box of 225 FTX loaded by xcaliber ammo out of Ohio. I need to try them out. My local state owned rifle range went through a major remodeling last summer so I’ve been meaning to put them on paper. I may just stick with the FTX ammo. I can’t for the life of me understand why nobody loads the 200gr XPB for the 450

You got a friend in me...

They're as fat as a 275 or 300 and traveling a whole lot faster!

After 5 gallon jugs, with their tough skins, of water:

Is that the 250 FTX you're showing there or the 225?
