450B BCG Question

Postby 450Buschmaster » Sun May 27, 2018 8:23 am

Hi,

Been lurking for awhile and have started to acquire parts for my first 450B build.

Have a question on the BCG - are 458 Socom BCGs interchangeable with 450B BCG's? Can I use a 458 Socom BCG on my 450B?

I prefer NiB bolt carriers for easier cleanup and there's a sale on a .458 Socom BCG this weekend I'm eyeing.

Any knowledge or recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

I honestly don't know for sure if all are compatible. I do know some were saying that they are not, while others said they are. I believe it came down to the extractors if I'm not mistaken. I know some sell bolts and BCG's that spec both.

I've used both Leigh and Youngs .458 bolts in the past with no issues.

You need more extractor hook reach with the 450 Bushmaster.
Extractors that work fine in the 458 SOCOM, can fail to snap over the rim on the 450 and jam up the works.
When we started making 450's, we had to change the dimensions of our 458 extractors so they would work with both calibers.
Unfortunately, when you buy a 458 bolt, you don't know if the extractor has enough reach to snap over the 450 rim or not. Some will, some won't.
It also depends on how deep the 450 chamber is cut and how long the brass is. There's a lot going on with all those dimensions, but generally speaking, you need more reach on a 450 extractor.
