Hi guys
Here is a new Encore 450 Bushy barrel I had MGM make for me.
20" overall with integral brake, spiral barrel, steel scope mount and barrel band all filled in with Gold Cerakote.
This barrel has 5R rifling at 1/20 twist. Hope to get out in next couple days to shoot it.
Will let you know how it does. Whole lot lighter than the Ruger #1 with the laminated stock. Have an extra fancy Curly Maple thumbhole stock being made to my short arms at 13.5" pull. It will also have Rosewood accents on the Schnabel fore end and the grip cap. This TC stock shown has a 14 3/4" pull and I cannot reach the trigger withouy turning my hand almost out of the thumb hole!!!

I'd nickname it Francis. ;)

Seriously though, nice workmanship!

Rifle twist discussion thread

Twist vs bullet weight

My buddy has a Bushmaster upper with 1:24 twist. Consistent shoots tight groups with 250 grain Hornady FTX and loose groups with their 225 grain projectiles. He has similar results with his Ruger scout .450 BM too.

Just ordered a Ruger MPC .450 Bushmaster with 1:16 twist.

Wondering if it is worth the time to work up 225 grain loads for this gun (1 in 16 twist) or better to focus on heavier loads for this slower twist?

Don't you want a lighter load for a slower twist? Is that what you meant?

Jim,

In regard to spin stabilized projectiles, specific barrel twists stabilize specific projectile weights more effectively, i.e., a 1 in 24" twist of a .450 favors a lighter bullet than a 1 in 16" twist.

Therefore, if a 1 in 24" does not favor 225 grain projectile accuracy, is it worthwhile to try to develop a load for a 1 in 16" twist barrel with a 225 grain projectile?

I like accurate loads, just don't want to waste time (developing a load) on a 225 grain bullet in a 1 in 16" barrel if the best I can do is a 2' group.
