AA#11FS and Lee 300gn boolits

Postby Railhunter15 » Wed Oct 27, 2021 12:28 am

Looking to finally start reloading for the 450 soon. Have seen limited info on the accurate 11fs and the 450 but what I did read seemed good. Hoping someone here may have some new info on it or ideas. Seems western powder says it's close enough to 296/110 to safely use that reloading data for it. I'm hoping that's true since 110/296 is a big hard to find but I have found quite a bit of 11fs.

Welcome Aboard Rail!

Its pretty hard to beat Lil Gun powder for its wide range of bullet weights in the 450b.

All powder is hard to get from local stores. At least it is up here. Some of the bigger name online merchants have some, including Lil Gun but Geez Louise, after Hazmat fee and shipping, its ridiculously expensive right now.

Welcome Rail.
+1 what Hoot said.
I’ve resorted to seeking out small town gun stores that sell reloading supplies for powder and had some success. But primers…. Well. LOL. I hope y’all stocked up during the Trump Administration. It’s gonna be a rough time these next few years.

I do have some decent supplies built up but most is for 9 and 45. Did not pick up the 450 till after all this crap hit the fan. So yeah I'm a bit behind on supplies for it. I did just pick up 2k primers here at a local store and heading back for another box if still there. But that's why I was interested in the 11FS since what little I can find says it should work just fine in the 450 and the local store has probably 15 lbs. of it. Its listed for 44 mag and other mag rifle rounds and seems very comparable to 296 which is a good powder also for the 450. If it works out then great. if it doesn't then great. Just looking to try and have options for reloading it so if one powder is gone can use another to keep rolling.

Oh and thank you for the welcome! I do have 1# of lil gun, 2 of 110. It's what I could get at time. For me at home in N Illinois there isnt much around at all. But im up in Minnesota right now for work and happened upon a store that for last few weeks has had primers and some powder. Missed out 2 weeks ago lol. cci small rifle primers were 59.99/1k. yesterday was 99.99/1k. but they had federal gold match srp 79.99/1k.. so I grabbed 2 of them.

Not to be Debbie Downer here but for optimum performance, you really should go with a magnum primer like the CCI450, Rem 7 1/2 or Tula Magnum SRP. I have used WSR, GM205M and even BR4's but settled on a Magnum primer shortly after trying them. I realize that "One goes to war with the army one has". An excellent way to win the hearts of all 450b members is to do a Range Report on something new, like that AA 11FS powder.

Thank you Hoot. no worries on being a debby downer haha. between the 9, 45 w/spp and 223 they wont go to waste if they do not work out in the 450. I appreciate all the info you have given. I will continue to research while up here for work, and once I get home will load some up for testing and cycling. Will for sure come back with any updates.

I’m also using CCI #41 primers for my 450B.
Just saying.

Welcome aboard. Been purusing the Accurate website and 450 BM load data. They do not list that powder under 450 BM, but do list it under 460 S&W with 300+ grain bullets. The 450 is basically a rimless 460 so you might be able to extrapolate from the information given and make it work. There is a 5 - 6 grain window between min and max for the 460 so it would appear not to be as touchy as H110, but it seems on par with their Enforcer which is on par with H110 as far as performance. I have been down this road a time or two and would give it a go if 11FS was all I had to work with.

In QuickLoad modeling software both calibers are spec'd at 60gr H20 case capacity, so yeah. Of course prudence decries that you start low and work up nonetheless. If a trip to the range isn't a long way, load up 3 rounds using the low charge and see how it chronographs, compared to the AA prediction. That'll give you an idea as to whether you need to start your testing at the bottom, or can skip to the middle charge and work up from there. Easy talk from a fellow who lives 8 minutes from his local Rifle Range. and is retired! ;)
